Coolangatta stood at 464 Remuera Rd for 93 years until 2006, when it was bulldozed without warning one Saturday morning in less than an hour. Sadly nothing is left of the very substantial home except an empty plot on the northern slopes of the suburb.Peter Macky has researched why the house was not scheduled under the Heritage Building Act and who were the councillors at the time and which way they voted, but the story is bigger than that and the photographs and descriptions of other buildings around Auckland that need protection make this fascinating reading.
